I Don't Like the Questions When I Try to Register...

Why do you ask these questions when I try to register on the site?

Full Name:

Well, because we're hoping to use the site as a place where authors and readers can discuss articles, I started thinking that it might be bad form if "Franz Boas" started posting replies. For this reason it seemed like a reasonable idea to have people use real names for their User Names. This also allows us to go to these people in the future looking for reviewers for articles. That's why we ask about your areas of interest or expertise. Affiliation, if you left it off, I probably wouldn't even notice.

We're also just curious who is coming around the website and why. Hence the later questions. Why the question about the SCA and AAA? Because those are our parent organizations, is the site made up of only folks from these organizations or more broad?

The final reason is, we get a lot of bogus account requests from spam-bots hoping to make the new culanth.org a land of spam content. Many of these spam-bots are quite savvy, and the account requests actually began with 48 hours of the new site being live.

All in all, it's something we're happy to think more about in the future.
