AnthroPod, the podcast of the Society for Cultural Anthropology, is looking for a freelance audio engineer. We’re one of the most widely listened-to podcasts in anthropology, averaging over 15,000 streams per episode. Our episodes are made by a collective of volunteer contributors. We’re looking for an experienced engineer to handle podcast editing so that our team can focus on content and storytelling. This is a chance to work on a well-established academic podcast with a wide audience and to build experience in narrative and interview-based audio editing. Engineer will be credited on each episode they work on.
List of Responsibilities (per episode, as needed):
- Assemble episodes from interviews, narration, music, and sound clips, following the producer’s outline
- Remove filler and repeated words (“um,” “like,” “you know”) so conversations flow smoothly
- Reduce background noise
- Add supplied intro, outro, background music, and other elements
- Balance audio levels, so that host does not speak louder that the guest(s) and vice versa
- Master audio for crisper sound
How it works:
For each episode, the producer will send the audio files along with a document showing the order of clips. Once you’ve edited the episode, you’ll send a draft to the producer for feedback, make any small revisions, and then deliver the final version. Some episodes are simple interviews, while others are narrative pieces that need more editing. You’ll work closely with each episode’s producer throughout the editing process.
Compensation:
$150 per episode, for up to 10 episodes per year.
