Are you looking for a writing endeavor beyond your dissertation, final essays, and grant applications? Looking for a collective of inspired anthropologists to rant to, write with, and publish together? We got you!
The Society for Cultural Anthropology (wait please, we’re not Cultural Anthropology the journal) is looking for new Contributing Editors to join its website! As a CE (contributing editor, that is), you are more of a writer than an editor and more of a contributor than an editor, despite the playful name. As a CE, you will write and publish posts on our SCA website on anything and everything that is strictly, loosely, or allegorically related to anthropology! There’s space on our website for a rant on your proposal writing, PhD applications, lack of support in your graduate program, or the mentor you had in your BA and terribly miss. We also have space for developing new syllabi, creating podcasts, and interviewing your favorite anthropologists who publish for the SCA’s flagship journal Cultural Anthropology. While we are accepting applicants for all sections, we are particularly interested in new people to join our social media team and help rebuild and nurture this central part of our communication program! Check this incredible series for a not-so-deep dive into the work of this superstar team!
To join us, you need to pick one of our exciting teams to work with! Commitment issues? You can always shift/switch to another section whenever you wish. Click on each section/team to know what they’re up for!
CE Teams/Sections:
What to Expect?
As a Contributing Editor, we expect you to write/contribute to one or two posts per year, along with at least one meeting every two months with your section editor and fellow CEs. Depending on the section you choose, your responsibilities might include more collaboration with other CEs, some editing, podcast production, or regular social media posting.
If you have time, mental space, and excitement to write, make new anthro friends, and engage in nurturing mentorship for a 1-year journey, send an email introducing yourself to our lead CE Noha Fikry (n.fikry@mail.utoronto.ca) and our student representative Shahana Munazir (munazir@wisc.edu). Reminder or perhaps a disclaimer: This is an unpaid position so please sign up only if you think you can offer your wholesome presence and equally wholesome writing during this upcoming year! Our deadline is July 30, 2025!
