Kathleen Cruz Gutierrez is an assistant professor of modern Southeast Asia and the history of science at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She specializes in the plant sciences and the plant humanities, and her first monograph, Unmaking Botany: Science and Vernacular Knowledge in the Colonial Philippines, was released by Duke University Press in 2025.
