Joanna Marbaniang is a PhD Candidate in cultural anthropology at Duke University. Her PhD research examines how gambling addiction in Northeast India complicates our understanding of addiction, tradition, and everyday forms of survival. She holds a BA in Psychology and Anthropology and a Masters in Social Work from India and worked in mental health NGOs in India before pursuing her PhD.
